CICP pigments: for applications with high durability and excellent properties

CICP pigments: for applications with high durability and excellent properties

Friday, 13 May, 2016

The finest coatings call for the best pigments. CICPs (Complex Inorganic Coloured Pigments) from Dominion Colour Corporation are highly stable pigments in terms of chemical and thermal stability, UV light opacity, hiding power and infrared (IR) reflectance.

CICP pigments afford excellent chemical stability making them highly resistant to extremely adverse conditions (such as industrial or marine atmospheres) with colour that can stand up to such extreme exposure.

CICP pigments are recommended for coatings requiring high temperature resistance as they offer remarkable thermal stability at temperatures exceeding 800 ºC.

Examples of applications are:

  • coatings for exhaust mufflers
  • ovens
  • fireplaces
  • high-temperature resistant powder coatings

These pigments also afford high UV light opacity, thus reducing the penetration of UV radiation. They absorb UV light in a similar fashion to organic light stabilisers, preventing the organic matrix of coatings deteriorating owing to the action of UV light.

Certain CICP pigments provide optimal near-infrared region reflectance making them useful in reflecting IR or heat radiation on coatings for roofs in particular and for construction generally. They are especially practical in dark coating formulations where the aim is to minimise the build-up of heat in the underlying structure.

CICPs are widely used in decorative, industrial, coil, automotive and powder coatings. In plastics, CICPs are highly recommended for PVC and polyolefins. The excellent temperature resistance of these pigments also make them very suitable for PA and engineering plastics.

We offer the following range of CICPs:

Excellent outdoor resistance, excellent chemical resistance, excellent heat resistance (in excess of 800 ºC), easy dispersion, exceptional hiding and excellent bleed resistance.

Dominion Colour Corporation (DCC) is one of the largest pigment manufacturers worldwide. Its pigments are used in paints, plastics, dyes and for a host of other specific applications. DCC began operating in 1946 manufacturing organic pigments and in 1954 started working with inorganic pigments. The company currently has production plants in Canada, The Netherlands, the UK, Venezuela, China and India, and on account of its broad distribution network, it is a supplier of companies the world over.
