Natural looking coatings: how about matting them?

There is a popular saying: “nature is wise”. A great variety of materials that nature provides us with are matt and it is perhaps due to this that when we see a shiny material it gives the impression of being very artificial.

It is possible to manufacture materials that give a more natural, pleasant impression through the matting of paints and varnishes.

The TSA series of silica aerogels distributed by Comindex are manufactured in a wide range of particle sizes, porosities and various surface treatments. The result is a wide variety of highly efficient matting agents that are easy to incorporate and disperse, with greater transparency, surface feel, scratch resistance and very low oil absorption. The main field of application of TSA silicas is for wood coatings, but they are also used in other fields of application such as industrial paints, plastics, inks, coil coatings, leather, textile and inkjet.
The great variety of products in the TSA series includes the following:

 • TSA 230L
· The smallest particle size (4 microns)
· The most transparent
· Very pleasant to the touch
Examples of application: PU wood coatings with a pleasant feel, coatings for the 3C industry (Computer, Communication and Consumer Electronics), coatings for wine and beer bottles (heat resistant paint).

• TSA 250L
· Medium particle size (5.5 microns)
· Excellent efficiency
· Organic surface treatment which allows high transparency
· Low sedimentation
Examples of application: PU wood coatings, industrial heat resistant paint, plastic coatings.

• TSA 260
· Medium particle size (5.5 microns)
· Excellent efficiency
· Pleasant to the touch
· High transparency
Examples of application: PU wood coatings, industrial heat resistant paint, plastic coatings.

• TSA 270L
· The largest particle size (6.5 microns)
· The highest matting efficiency
Examples of application: coatings of a certain thickness and hard resin systems (polyester resin, epoxy resin).
