Reduce TiO2 in high pH paints

Reduce TiO2 in high pH paints

Thursday, 14 January, 2021

At present, high pH paints have started to gain momentum. This is because, among other reasons, they do not require biocides to prevent the proliferation of microorganisms. As a result, development of these products has started to intensify and Comindex, endeavouring to provide innovations, presents the Circolit functional mineral filler, to partially reduce the quantity of TiO2 in your formulations.

This functional mineral filler is based on calcium silicate hydrate (CSH) and is supplied in slurry form, Circolit-Slurry, with a solids content of approximately 50%. Its incorporation into the formulation allows a partial reduction of the quantity of TiO2 – up to 30% can be substituted – at the same time as providing the following advantages:

  • It provides high whiteness and opacity.
  • Biocides are not required for paint storage due to its high pH.
  • It has no hazard classification and is an environmentally friendly product – it complies with the German Blue Angel standard.
  • It has a low degree of sedimentation.
  • It has a low impact on rheology.
  • It allows for cost reduction.

Its main applications are lime paints, silicate paints and high pH water-based paints where the use of biocides is to be avoided.
