ARMIPENT: System compatible fibers

ARMIPENT: System compatible fibers

Thursday, 11 February, 2016

Armipent, produced by Finma Chemie, is composed of fibrillated polyolefin fibers treated with silica for the formulation of coatings, paints and cementitious and gypsum based products. These fibers create a 3D matrix fiber network in the system, improving tensile strength and flexibility, allowing viscosity adjustment.

In contrast to other existing fibers in the market, ARMIPENT shows an excellent compatibility with all types of systems and it is very easy to incorporate thanks to its silica content. This particularity avoids the formation of fiber balls and allows a homogeneous distribution, as well as in the manufacturing process as during the application of the paint, gypsum or cementitious product or self-levelling mortar.

There are 9 different ARMIPENT references available with different fiber lengths (100, 400 or 1500 µm) and silica content (70, 60 and 45%). The higher the silica content, the less impact on the final product viscosity.

Applications:

- In paints and coatings, ARMIPENT improves consistency, allows higher film thickness per coat without cracking and optimizes vertical application viscosity.
- In waterproof coatings systems, ARMIPENT has good properties against water and water vapor due to its non-polar polyolefin content and has a low tendency to swell. Moreover, it has an excellent resistance against water pressure and has no influence on the drying time of the system.
- In cementitious floor self-levelling compounds, ARMIPENT improves flexibility and consistency of the system and minimizes shrinkage cracking.
- In plaster systems, ARMIPENT gives consistency, allows higher film thickness in vertical application and joints filling without cracking nor contraction.

In most of the systems and applications, the recommended dose is between 1 and 3% of the total formulation. On cementitious floor self-levelling compounds, recommended dose is between 0,75 and 1%.

ARMIPENT can be used in aqueous and solvent systems. It shows chemical resistance to acidic and alkaline media and high weathering resistance.
