Bactiblock IN-CAN: better protection thanks to ionic silver

Friday, 14 January, 2022

Bactiblock is a range of antimicrobial additives distributed by Comindex, whose active ingredient in the majority of the products is the silver ion – a natural element which has a broad antimicrobial spectrum and is safe at low doses for humans, animals and plants.

Ionic silver has a multi-target effect, which is advantageous when compared to other antimicrobial solutions with a more limited spectrum. Its effectiveness is proven against a large variety of microorganisms (bacteria, fungi, yeasts and viruses) such as Escherichia coli, Legionella sp, Pseudomonas, SalmonelIa, Legionella, Listeria monocytogenes, Staphylococcus aureus and AspergiIIus niger, among others.

The silver ion is adsorbed on a solid carrier of clay or amorphous glass – the selection of this carrier depends on the final application of the additive. Thanks to this technology, active ingredient release occurs in a controlled manner, ensuring a long-lasting effect, maximising its efficacy and creating a more homogenous protection.

In addition to the more common applications (plastics, paints, construction materials, adhesives, polymers and other materials) we would like to emphasise its use as a preservative in paint packaging, Bactiblock IN-CAN.

The advantages of using Bactiblock IN-CAN as a preservative for packaging are:

  • It is compliant with the BPR Regulation for biocides.
  • It does not contain VOCs.
  • It has long-lasting protection against microorganisms thanks to its multi-target technology and controlled release.
  • It is effective at low doses.
  • It has no direct impact on labelling.
  • It is compatible with Blue Angel and Ecolabel certifications.
