BYK Additives to improve the efficiency of UV-curing inks and inkjet inks

Friday, 10 October, 2025

The UV market is a growing market driven by increasing demand for efficient production processes as well as sustainable solutions. Some of the benefits are instant curing, superior print quality, high durability of prints, solvent- and VOC-free, energy efficient by using LEDs, etc.

On top of that, the UV inks and OPV can be applied with all common printing processes.

BYK offers a complete portfolio of additives for radiation curing systems: wetting & dispersing additives, defoamers, surface additives and waxes.

The choice of wetting and dispersing additives will depend on the type of pigments, organic or inorganic.

In UV systems, defoamers are very system dependent. Tests should always be carried out with several defoamers to achieve the best performance.

The defoamers for 100% UV systems are BYK-019, BYK-1799, BYK-1790, BY-1794, BYK-088 etc.

Surface additives can be used to improve the substrate wetting (BYK-UV 3510 / BYK-UV 3511, BYK-377 / BYK-3771, BYK-333) and leveling (BYK-361 N, BYK-381, BYK-307 / BYK-3762) for UV systems.

For tape release and extreme slip properties, BYK-UV 3590 and BYK-UV 3595 can be tested in scratchcard systems.

BYK-3500, BYK-UV 3510 / BYK-UV 3511 (silicone cyclic-free version of BYK-UV 3510) and BYK-377 / BYK-3771 (silicone cyclic-free version of BYK-377) will provide extreme slip.

Waxes from the CERAFLOUR range can improve properties like rub resistance or surface slip and bring matting or soft feel effects.
