Cellulose, a biodegradable, natural and versatile product

Cellulose is a completely natural polysaccharide found in plant cell walls. It is one of the most abundant polymers on Earth and is a fully renewable component.

In industry, it benefits from a broad range of uses, such as obtaining textile fibres, being incorporated in varnishes and insulation or, as it is more widely known, being used in the manufacture of paper pulp to produce toilet paper, tissue paper and serviettes, among many other applications.

We therefore need to ask the question: what can this cellulose be used for in our detergent formulations? Read on to find out!

Before we begin to explore its applications, allow us to go over some of the primary features of the cellulose-based products manufactured by our represented company CFF:

  • They are stable in pH and temperatures up to 200ºC
  • They are natural, biodegradable and fully sustainable
  • They are natural absorbents of water and oils
  • The fibres do not break under shear, except for long fibres and large granules which are sensitive to high shear force in very low viscosity formulations
  • They provide low dust formation
  • They do not agglomerate or swell
  • They are easy to incorporate at any point in the process

On account of these properties, these kinds of cellulose can be used in a broad range of applications, for instance as abrasives in hand cleaning pastes or for cleaning of delicate surfaces, for tablet compaction, as an anti-caking agent or as a carrier in powder-based products, among many other uses.

To sum up, CFF’s natural, biodegradable and non-toxic cellulose fibres provide a sustainable alternative for microplastics and can help you to formulate solid and liquid products.
