FINMATT: matting agents with outstanding chemical and mechanical resistance

The FINMATT series are a range of powder matting agents based on polymeric microspheres and silica for paints and coatings. This combination of organic and inorganic agents provides a matte finish, unimpaired chemical and mechanical resistance and a range of soft feels.

The various FINMATT grades are distinguished according to particle size and fineness, the feel they lend the finish (smooth, silky, flexible, etc.), and the matting efficiency achieved. The following references stand out:

  • FINMATT 121V – Average particle size: 8 μm, grinding fineness ≤ 45 μm, soft/flexible feel, medium/high matting efficiency.
  • FINMATT 152V – Average particle size: 8 μm, grinding fineness ≤ 45 μm, silky/smooth feel, medium/high matting efficiency.
  • FINMATT 166V – New! Average particle size: 45 μm, grinding fineness ≤ 100 μm, textured feel, medium/high matting efficiency.

Coatings formulated with FINMATT have a range of applications: parquet varnishes, floors, furniture, foils, plastic and glass coatings, packaging inks, etc., and may be used in water, solvent-based 100% and UV-coatings.

FINMATT manufacturer FINMA CHEMIE GmbH is constantly developing new products. Shortly it will be introducing the new FINMATT S-H 11, a special grade for UV systems. Matting 100% UV formulations has always been complex as the addition of matting agents often entails increased system viscosity. The new FINMATT will minimise the impact on viscosity and improve the chemical resistance of the finish as it is chemically modified for the curing reaction and for system binding.
