Bactiblock is an antimicrobial additive marketed by Comindex and has applications in a wide range of sectors – plastics, coatings, construction materials, adhesives, polymers and other materials.

Its technology is based on the adsorption of the active substance (in the majority of cases it consists of ionic silver) on a solid clay or amorphous glass carrier (depending on the final application) and it is released in a controlled manner, achieving a longer lasting effect when compared to other antimicrobial agents.

Bactiblock is proven to be effective against a wide variety of microorganisms – bacteria, fungi, mould and algae – which makes it ideal as a Single Source Solution.

In addition, there are specific grades for special applications, such as food contact or high temperature processes.

All of the antimicrobial products are approved for different Product Types (PT) according to the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA). Depending on the field of application and the product used, it is necessary to report or register the products under the following PTs:

  • PT 2: Disinfectants and algaecides not intended for direct application to humans or animals
  • PT 6: Preservatives for products during storage
  • PT 7: Film preservatives
  • PT 9: Fibre, leather, rubber and polymerised material preservatives
  • PT 10: Construction material preservatives
