The inclusion of effect pigments in packaging creates attractive and striking finishes which make them stand out from the rest. The range of pigments from Ruicheng achieves a variety of effects, from a pearl lustre to a gloss or glitter-style effect.

Their incorporation into formulas is very straightforward.

Only a few precautions need be considered in order to avoid destroying or damaging the pigment particles and losing the desired effect. To this end, in extrusion processes, it is recommended to increase the temperature by 20-30ºC compared to the processing of standard organic pigments. Alternatively, these pigments can be added after the rest of the components in the formulation.

After introduction of the effect pigment with the polymer – PE, PP, PS, PVC, PET or ABS – we can process it via different techniques – extrusion, co-extrusion, injection moulding and blow moulding – and obtain the end product with the desired striking effect.

Comindex distributes the following families of effect pigments:

  • KW – Based on natural mica coated with metal oxides such as titanium dioxide and/or iron oxides. It is the standard and most extensive range.
  • KW Crystal – Based on synthetic mica coated with metal oxides such as titanium dioxide and/or iron oxides. The fact that the synthetic mica particle is uniform and transparent makes it possible to achieve more striking effects than those obtained by using natural mica.
  • DiamonDream – Based on highly transparent glass platelets, coated with metal oxides such as titanium dioxide and/or iron oxides. This range has ultra-fine flakes, superior transparency and a very high refractive index. As a result, we obtain extraordinary colours and sparkling effects.
  • Bold – Based on natural mica and synthetic mica coated with optimised metal oxide technology. These improvements allow for high glosses, very pure whites and more intense interference effects.

Several grades are available which comply with food contact regulations, allowing their use in a wide range of applications – packaging for cosmetic and food products, packaging for personal care products, beverage bottles and caps, toys, fitness equipment, etc.
