Carbodilite carbodiimides, supplied by our partner GSI Europe, reduce hydrolytic degradation by increasing crosslink density without compromising gloss or flexibility. This enables the formulation of more sustainable products for industrial coatings, protective coatings and architectural finishes.

How do carbodiimides react?

Carbodiimides are organic compounds containing the functional group:

[– N = C = N –]

The carbodiimide group reacts with carboxylic groups, enabling crosslinking with resins that contain these functional groups.

Grades and characteristics of Carbodilite carbodiimides

Key benefits:

Improved resistance to moisture and prolonged water exposure, extending coating lifespan in humid environments, tropical climates and exterior applications.
Enhanced chemical resistance in industrial environments.
Greater outdoor durability, with no yellowing or loss of adhesion.
Excellent compatibility with waterborne acrylic and polyurethane systems, without inducing colloidal instability.
Isocyanate-free. Low toxicity, more favourable GHS classification, and low VOC (volatile organic compound) profile.
Easier incorporation compared to isocyanates.
Lower dosage levels required for crosslinking than isocyanates.
The safest crosslinking option for food-contact applications. Certain grades comply with FDA and Swiss Ordinance requirements.
