The elimination or reduction of emissions is one of the objectives in the formulation of floorings based on high or 100% solid epoxy and polyurethane systems. One of the challenges of these systems is ensuring the total elimination of trapped air. The absence of a solvent, the resulting high processing viscosity, and the high amount of fillers and pigments are some of the reasons why elimination of air in these systems is not easy.

BYK-1760, distributed by Comindex, destabilises the foam lamella until it breaks. The defoamer is a mixture of active substances (silicone and polymer) in a reactive diluent. The reaction of the carrier through its functional groups causes the defoamer to lose its mobility. BYK-1760 is a defoamer for emission-free and AgBB-compliant systems.

The fact that the carrier of the defoamer is incorporated into the polymeric matrix means that this defoamer exhibits lower migration than other defoamers. In addition, it does not produce slip, which is an undesirable property in floorings.

BYK-1760 has been formulated to obtain a good balance between compatibility and efficiency. The additive does not cause opacity or cratering. Furthermore, it is compatible with pigmented and transparent systems (both matt and gloss), and is very easy to incorporate during grinding, finishing and even in post-addition.

In summary, the new BYK-1760 defoamer is ideal for solvent-borne and solvent-free epoxy, polyurethane and polyaspartic systems. The additive boasts a good balance between compatibility and efficiency. It does not cause opacity or cratering and it is easy to incorporate during grinding, completion and even post-addition.
