Pearlescent pigments, pigments for protection

Pearlescent pigments, pigments for protection

Friday, 12 April, 2019

Whenever we think of pearlescent pigments we infer that they are solely for decorative purposes.

We refer to reflection, refraction and colour interference; a host of visual effects depending on the angle of view.
However, our coatings can also benefit from another purpose aside from merely decoration.
Why not offer protection against the sun’s heat in greenhouses and solariums?

The answer to this question is: KW® 221 BLUE SATIN.

Comindex markets a large range of pearlescent pigments, including the KW® series: pearlescent pigments with a natural mica base coated in metal oxides such as titanium dioxide and/or iron oxide.

KW 221® BLUE SATIN, in a 10% dosage in coatings for greenhouses, solariums, etc., acts as an IR spectrum reflecting agent, preventing the build-up of heat inside protected rooms, thus facilitating the photosynthesis of plants in greenhouses and protecting the well-being of people on terraces.
