A safe, environmentally-friendly alternative to polyurethane-based (PU) adhesives and sealants: RISUN STP Polymers

Thursday, 14 July, 2016

STPs (silane-terminated polyethers) have the following chemical structure:

The middle section of the polymer is formed by chains of polyether that provide its key physical properties.

The active groups of both ends are terminated by siloxane coupling agents which provide the basic adhesive properties to the polymer.
The subsequent curing of the polymer is carried out through moisture and subsequent chain-growth polycondensation.

The main advantages afforded by these kinds of polymers compared to PU-based polymers are:

  • The absence of isocyanates and solvents in the formulation, whereby they are safe and environmentally-friendly.
  • They require a low amount of tin and tin-free catalyst.
  • Good weather resistance and excellent UV (yellowing) & chemical resistance.
  • Fast curing and unlike PU no bubbles are generated in this stage.
  • No surface tack or leaching on exterior constructions.
  • Excellent primer-free adhesion to aluminium.
  • Excellent paintability.

The key areas of application of RISUN POLYMER STP products are:

  • Construction
  • Household
  • Industrial
  • Coatings

RISUN POLYMER is certified according to ISO 9001:2008. For further information about these products, please contact our technical advisory team.
