Monday, 17 October, 2016
Sekisui Plastics is one of the foremost chemical firms in Japan. Its lines of business include the manufacture and marketing of Techpolymer spherical polymer particles. Comindex is its exclusive distributor for Spain, Portugal and Morocco.

Techpolymer microspheres are primarily PMMA- and PS-based, and there are several qualities according to particle size, distribution and strength. Spherical particles with a high degree of recovery are especially noteworthy as they provide high scratch resistance.

Sekisui Plastics recently developed new Techpolymer grades for water-based systems. The new microspheres provide improved incorporation and dispersion in the medium thanks to the hydrophilic groups contained and they may be used for coatings.

In general, Techpolymer microspheres may be used for:
  • thermoplastics: matting effect, anti-blocking on plastic film and improved light dispersion on PMMA and PC.
  • coatings: high scratch resistance, soft feel, anti-slip, gloss control.
  • ceramics: formation of pores.

The key markets are as follows:
  • decoration and outdoor paints
  • varnishes
  • wood coatings
  • flooring
  • industrial coating
  • anti-blocking on film
  • architectural lighting panels
  • LED light panels

Sekisui Plastics was set up in 1959 and employs more than 1800 workers all over the globe. Its primary line of business focuses on manufacturing expanded polystyrene foam for industrial and food packaging. It currently has several manufacturing plants dotted over the world in places in China, Japan, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and the USA.
