Silver-based antimicrobials, also for in-can protection

BactiBlock^® and ArgiBlock^® are antimicrobial additives for plastics, coatings, construction materials, adhesives, polymers and other materials. Their main active ingredient is the silver ion, a natural element with a wide antimicrobial spectrum and recognised as safe for humans, animals and plants.

The technology is based on the adsorption of silver ions on a solid carrier of clay or amorphous glass, depending on the final application. This allows a controlled release of the active ingredient, guaranteeing a long-lasting effect, maximising its efficiency and creating more uniform protection.

The additive prevents the growth of bacteria, mould, fungi and other microorganisms. Ionic silver is a multi-target antimicrobial, which is advantageous when compared to other organic solutions which only offer a single functionality. It is proven to be effective against the majority of harmful microorganisms present in everyday life, such as E. coli, Legionella, Pseudomonas, Salmonella, S. aureus, AspergiIIus niger and others.

It can also be used as a preservative in paint containers in very low doses, without the usual labelling issues associated with other organic solutions.
