Biological toilet paper: can it help to preserve the environment?

What would you think if we were to say that using toilet paper could be beneficial for the environment?

No doubt your answer would be: it sounds too good to be true!

And until very recently that was the case.

However, at Comindex we want to change your mind because it is NOW possible to care for the environment by using biological toilet paper.

Indeed, the change to bioactive toilet paper delivers a more eco-friendly lifestyle, revolutionising the concept of tissue paper from being a basic product to becoming a sustainable specialist product.

But, how can we make paper biological?

Biologically active paper is achieved by adding beneficial probiotics to the paper we already typically use.

These probiotics are non-pathogenic micro-organisms that produce enzymes capable of breaking down and transforming organic matter (dirt) into simple compounds such as water and carbon dioxide.

When you throw it down the toilet bowl, contact with the water for flushing activates them, producing specific enzymes which also break down the organic substances that have built up in the pipes.

The benefits of using biological toilet paper

By using this paper, we keep the pipelines clean and help them to flow better, preventing blockages in the plumbing system.

Another advantage is sustainability, because when breaking down the organic matter the natural process of wastewater purification is boosted, even after flushing the toilet; and this water will end up in our ecosystem in a cleaner state

BATP: our solution for biological toilet paper

BATP (Biologic Active Tissue Paper) is developed by BBA Ecotech. It is an internationally patented product developed specifically for the paper industry

It is a ready-to-use liquid with which we produce biologically active toilet paper. It contains 5 natural bacterial strains that are harmless to humans and the environment.

In addition, the enzymes produced perform a twofold function: breaking down the organic matter (cellulose, animal and plant fats, dirt, etc.) and preventing the formation of unpleasant odours.

It also controls the growth of pathogenic bacteria because probiotics compete with pathogenic micro-organisms for food, reducing these bacterial colonies

How do we formulate BATP?

Now we know the benefits of biological paper, one obvious question remains: how can I add BATP to tissue paper?

In actual fact, very easily.

It merely needs to be applied in the conversion to paper step using a micro-nozzle nebulizer system. This one simple step helps to improve the environment.

As well as being easy to incorporate, it makes life much easier for the end user because it is the only product on the market in which probiotics are already integrated into the paper.

It goes without saying that we also have an interest in the health of consumers.

As a result, BATP has been developed in line with the standard UNI ENI ISO 9001:2015 and it has passed the Toxicology Expert Assessment tests conducted by the pharmacology and toxicology unit of the University of Pisa.

The findings reveal that the product is not toxic; nor is it harmful or irritating to the skin, the eyes, or the mucous membranes, etc.
