Don't let UV light ruin your plastic items

It is not only the human body that we must protect from UV rays; polymers also need to be protected from sunlight. Therefore, finding additives that create a protective effect against UV radiation will increase the lifespan of products by preventing loss of their physical properties such as elasticity, stress or mechanical resistance, etc.

Along these lines, Comindex would like to introduce you to Chisorb BP-12, a UV absorber with a benzophenone chemical structure, manufactured by Double Bond Chemical

UV absorbers filter part of the spectrum of sunlight (UVA), converting it into heat, and subsequently dissipating it via the surface of the coating. Its use is recommended for various polymeric systems:
 

  • Polyethylene (PE): Its use is effective in both high and low density polyethylene (HDPE and LDPE respectively) and its efficiency is superior to UV absorbers based on the benzotriazole structure. It is recommended for flat yarns, monofilaments, films, moulded and blow moulded items.
  • Polypropylene (PP): It has a good cost-effectiveness ratio and can be used in natural or pigmented PP. Fibres, monofilaments, flat yarns, ribbons, nets and films are some of the recommended uses.
  • Polyvinyl chloride (PVC): It is recommended for both plasticised and unplasticised PVC. Use of the UV absorber prevents yellowing, loss of physical properties – elongation, impact and tensile strength – and the appearance of dark spots on plasticised PVC. It is outstanding when used in outdoor applications, where yellowing and colour changes must be controlled.
