The first BYK defoamer specifically designed for water-based cutting fluids and lubricants

BYK-9740 is a new silicone- and polymer-based defoamer for water-based lubricants that offers excellent immediate and long-lasting defoaming performance.

Water-based cutting fluids or lubricants are used in the machining of metal parts, for example in cutting, forming or grinding operations, where they cool, lubricate and clean both the workpiece and the metal component. Foam formation is a common problem in these systems, which are typically formulated as concentrates containing emulsifiers and surfactants and are pumped through recirculation systems. For this reason, the use of a reliable and long-term stable defoamer is essential.

The new BYK-9740 is the first defoamer in the BYK range specifically designed for water-based lubricants. It provides excellent immediate and long-lasting defoaming performance combined with good compatibility. The additive is particularly suitable for systems containing a certain amount of oil, such as water-soluble and semi-synthetic lubricants.

Its advantages include excellent immediate and long-lasting defoaming performance (CNOMO test), good compatibility with a wide range of cutting-fluid concentrates, no negative influence on the painting process, and easy incorporation.

The recommended application areas for BYK-9740 are:

  • Water-soluble cutting fluids.
  • Semi-synthetic cutting fluids (medium to high oil content).
  • Semi-synthetic cutting fluids (low oil content).
  • Fully synthetic cutting fluids.
