The formulation of environmentally-friendly flame retardant coatings

New varieties of flame-retardant coatings for steel structures are becoming ever more important, to allow people more time to escape from fire. The steel structure can buckle under the intense heat caused during a fire and the structure can even collapse due to the loss in strength.

Now, thanks to the help of one of our represented companies Presafer, we are pleased to introduce the PreniphorTM EPFR-APP (II) range of halogen-free, flame-retardant additives that are more environmentally friendly than other standard flame-retardant materials on the market.

The intumescent coating formulated using the PreniphorTM EPFR-APP (II) series ensures personal safety and the security of a property on account of its optimal properties. It has been widely used in various buildings, such as airports, stadiums, schools, hospitals, factories, and so on.

PreniphorTM EPFR-APP (II) can be applied in coatings, textiles and thermostable resins. It is an ammonium polyphosphate-based material (APP) with better properties than traditional APP.
 


 

The primary features of PreniphorTM EPFR-APP (II) include its:

  • High degree of polymerisation
  • Excellent weather resistance
  • Optimal crystalline structure
  • Low content in low polymerisation substance
  • Excellent thermal stability
     

There are various grades depending on particle size and surface treatment:

  • PreniphorTM EPFR-APP216: Highly recommended for intumescent coatings. The most cost-effective standard grade.
  • PreniphorTM EPFR-APP222H: Highly recommended for intumescent coatings. Also available for thermostable resins (Epoxy, UP, PU, etc.). Standard grade with smaller particle size.
  • PreniphorTM EPFR-APP224: Highly recommended for intumescent coatings. Also available for thermostable resins (Epoxy, UP, PU, etc.). Standard grade with larger particle size.
  • PreniphorTM EPFR-APP262 (Encapsulated with melamine-formaldehyde): Highly recommended for intumescent coatings, textile coatings and thermostable resins (Epoxy, UP, PU, etc.) where applications have strict water resistance requirements, for instance, on outdoor applications.
