Get rid of moisture in your PU systems

Monday, 14 September, 2020

Moisture contained in some raw materials or moisture in the environment itself is harmful in water sensitive applications such as polyurethane systems. One option to avoid this problem is the incorporation of moisture absorbers, such as the Finma-Sorb range from FINMA.

Distributed by Comindex, these products comprise of a molecular sieve, available as a powder or paste (dispersed in castor oil). We recommend the paste as it has greater ease of dispersion in the final formulation and has higher stability (the castor oil prevents direct contact of the active material with moisture in the air) and is more effective.

This product has a pore size of 3 Å, specifically for the absorption of water molecules. A larger pore size could absorb other molecules, such as nitrogen, and its possible release in our product under certain conditions could generate problems with foaming or defects.

Use of the Finma-Sorb range is recommended for various PU systems – 1 and 2 component systems, coatings, adhesives and sealants. Furthermore, its incorporation prevents appearance of foam by avoiding secondary reactions which generate CO2 through reaction of the isocyanate and water molecules from the raw materials, the media or even the environment.
