Halogen-free flame retardants for thermoset systems

Halogen-free flame retardants for thermoset systems

Wednesday, 15 September, 2021

Due to greater concern for safety, health, the environment and restrictions on the use of halogenated components, the transition to halogen-free flame retardants (HFFRs) is an increasingly important consideration; therefore, we wish to highlight the LUVOGARD FC range, distributed by Comindex.

Its composition consists of a synergistic mix of organophosphorus and nitrogen-based derivatives, developed especially as flame retardants for resins – polyester, epoxy, acrylics, polyurethanes – and PVC plastisols. Through various mechanisms, including intumescence – where an insulating layer of charring is formed – we achieve greater effectiveness. In addition, it does not generate combustible gases at the site of the fire. These properties and its unique chemistry allow it to be used in both open and closed mould systems.
