At Comindex we are delighted to introduce our latest developments in additives: UPSIL fumed silicas from our represented company Letop.

These kinds of silicas are obtained by heating a silicon compound which gives rise to silicon dioxide (SiO2), known as fumed silica. They exhibit thixotropic behaviour and, consequently, are used as rheology additives.

In order to enhance their performance, UPSIL silicas can be used in conjunction with BYK’s rheology enhancers: RHEOBYK-R 605, RHEOBYK-R 606 and RHEOBYK-R 607. The choice of RHEOBYK product will depend on the formula being worked on.

UPSIL fumed silicas are characterised by their whiteness, their small particle size and the fact that they are non-toxic. We offer two types of fumed silica:

  • Hydrophilic UPSILs: UPSIL 200 and UPSIL 380 grades are just two examples.
  • Hydrophobic UPSILs: silicas with special surface treatments, notable on account of the uniform nature of the treatment. The silicas in this group include UPSIL 815L and UPSIL 920.

These silicas can be used in a host of applications: coatings, adhesives, sealants, composites, silicone rubbers, PVC plastisol, and many others.
