Matte-finish-based inks

Lingwe’s matting silicas marketed by Comindex are perfect for an array of sectors: coatings, plastics, coils, textiles, inks, and many more. However, we wish to focus on the inks sector since the silicas are used in overprint varnishes and inks themselves.

Use of matting agents in overprint varnishes calls for highly precise properties: optimal transparency, easy dispersion and high matting effect. The silicas distributed by Comindex benefit from these properties, whilst also increasing anti-blocking attributes and exhibiting low oil absorption.

In inks, Lingwe’s matting agents also deliver the above listed features, whether they are UV, water-borne or solvent-based inks. Nevertheless, it is necessary to bear in mind that incorporating a matting agent does lead to a slight increase in viscosity; therefore, we must choose the appropriate range according to the type of ink being formulated:

  • The TSA range – where the silica is obtained by means of a wetting process involving gel technology – is ideal for serigraphy, rotogravure and flexographic, low viscosity inks.
  • The A and HS ranges – where the silica is obtained by means of precipitation – are suitable for serigraphy, rotogravure, dry offset, typographic and offset industrial printing inks that call for higher viscosity.
